A summer of camps

This year, we’ve run our camps a little differently, and we’ve had so much learning and fun. I’ve run three children’s camps, one adult camp and also made my annual trip to teach at Trentvalley Equestrian for their five day camp.

One of the best things about camp is the consistency with the clients and their horses. Its just the best thing to watch skills and confidence grow just because we’ve got the whole day. its about getting to know clients better, empower them, use their strengths to overcome any weaknesses.

Also the fun, having lunch together, catching up and having a good laugh. Thats something we’ve all missed over the last eighteen months.

Children have learnt to be independent, for example tacking up themselves and worked as team helping their friends fill haynets. We’ve cleaned tack, brushed tails to perfection, jumped without reins, designed a showjumping course and been responsible for the care and well being of their ponies.

Adults have had time to be with their horses, something we know is just so precious with family and work commitments. They’ve had lectures from a saddler and farrier, worked on core strength and stability, celebrated a birthday and had a trip out to Danethorpe Hill cross country course.

Camps are now bespoke here at Gamston. You choose the dates, length and who you want to attend with up to a maximum of five riders. I’ve enjoyed this so much that we are now going to run them all year, subject to weather.
